Tournaments

Around the winter months, the Davis Youth Robotics tournament schedule is determined and posted here. Tournaments are held at local school gyms and inspire the future generations.

Resources

Davis Youth Robotics (DYR) League is a program aimed at engaging 4th through 8th grade students in competitive robotics in an after-school setting. Through the DYR League, students learn skills like teamwork, programming, communication, engineering and math principles in a fun, collaborative environment.  Each DYR team is run by parent coaches, with technical support from Citrus Circuits student mentors.

Frequently   asked   questions

WHEN DO DYR LEAGUE TEAMS MEET?
DYR League Teams can start meeting as soon as their teams are assigned. Teams will generally start meeting regularly in August, once or twice per week.  DYR Teams generally stop meeting after their last competition (November or December), unless they qualify for State Championships, which are held in February.
Exact meeting times differ from team to team, depending on team member availability.
WHERE DO DYR LEAGUE TEAMS MEET?
Just like meeting times, this will differ from team to team. Some teams arrange to meet at a school classroom, while others will meet in a family's home or garage. Because the Vex IQ Field can easily be broken down into smaller pieces, all of the team equipment can be packed up into a couple of boxes between team meetings. This allows teams to store their equipment easily and move it between meeting sites if needed.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN BEING A DYR PARENT COACH?
Every DYR League team needs two Parent Coaches, who do not need previous DYR experience. For more information on coaching, view the Coaches Handbook above.
HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE ON A DYR LEAGUE TEAM?
A DYR League team can have a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 10. However, we highly recommend 6-8 students for the best experience.
MY STUDENT IS IN 9TH GRADE, CAN THEY PARTICIPATE IN DYR LEAGUE?
9th grade students are not eligible to participate in DYR. We encourage all 9th grade students to join our high school robotics team, Citrus Circuits. Please contact us here to learn about joining Citrus Circuits.
