In 2014, Steve Harvey, our lead mentor, and the students leadership came up with an idea for a competition assistance program. This program came to fruition in 2017, when Kurtis Rohlf, a mentor of our team, was asked to be the lead mentor for Citrus Service. During competitions, he used scouts on their breaks to passively see if other teams needed assistance during the competition. At the 2017 Sacramento Regional, Citrus Service helped about 15 teams, and approximately the same amount at the Las Vegas Regional. Since 2017, Citrus Service operates, with 4 dedicated students from various subteams, at every competition we have competed at. Additionally, Citrus Service was personally invited by the Regional Director, Theresa May and an Lead Robot Inspector, Jon Canfield, to provide our services at the Silicon Valley Regional. To date, we have helped over 100 teams this season. We hope to expand Citrus Service next year to 6 or 8 students.
