Week 7 - rappin' to the trap
As the final week of build season ends, Citrus Circuits prepares for our first competition of the year at the Silicon Valley Regional in San Jose.
Hardware design has been working hard to finalize our competition robot in preparation for the Silicon Valley Regional. This week, members focused on swapping the indexer to a new design that should improve triple point efficiency (which determines the position of the note for various scoring scenarios), and are working on adjusting the “ampvator” mechanism to a new design in order to improve amp and trap ejection scoring.

Hardware fabrication
Hardware electrical
Hardware fabrication members have been making spare parts and final parts for our Competition robot. They also helped design, construct, and wrap robot bumpers. This process includes using vinyl stencils and white spray paint to “print” our team number, 1678.

The hardware electrical subteam is continuing to wire the robot for our upcoming competitions, and new mounts have been made for such components as the radio switch, limelight, and cameras. Members of hardware electrical have also been changing how wires are routed, making it easier to fix a lot of things that kept breaking.
Front-end members are currently working on the 2024 Pit Display, adding new images, updating information, and polishing up any bugs on the app.

Scouting Back-end have been working hard on strategies, pulling data from tablets, and fixing bugs in the app. The subteam has also been calculating the cycle times and the number of pieces a team scores in a match.

Week 1 - Crescendo!
Welcome to the 2024 Citrus Circuits Build Blog! Here we will cover what the team is doing during the build season through weekly updates for this year’s FRC game, Crescendo!

Kickoff
On January 6, our team participated in the kickoff for the worldwide reveal of the 2024 FIRST Robotics Competition game. Presented by Haas, Crescendo is inspired by our 2021 Game Design Challenge, Storm Surge (Watch this year's Game Video). We hosted 16 other teams in the Brunelle Theater to watch the reveal livestream. Throughout the weekend we split off into small groups to read the game manual, discuss the requirements of the new game, and determine what we want our robot to do.

On Day 6, we successfully executed a 5-note auto! Check it out on our YouTube channel. (Link)
Hardware Design
Both design and fabrication have been working hard to test prototypes of possible robot designs. Members of the Design subteam split into prototyping groups and focused on various mechanisms, including climb, intake, and amplification shooting. Fabrication focused on machining parts for our Alpha robot and prototypes, and other team members finished-up training on how to operate the mills and router.

Hardware Electrical
During Week 1, members of electrical wired up various prototyping boards so our prototyping teams could operate, and completely wired our Alpha bot. Afterward, they passed Alpha off to the Software Robot subteam to continue testing.
Software robot
Software scouting
This week, Software Robot began programming for all the prototype mechanisms which include vision, heading control, possible autos for comp, and advantage scope (simulate robots logs). This week, members successfully executed a 5-note auto for our Alpha robot!
Front-end members are redesigning the match selection app to design a new layout. This new game required updating and figuring out what data points to collect based on gameplay, new maps, and new layouts in Viewer. Back-end updated new data points and new tests for each datapoint file, along with updating all calculations methods of new variables for the game.
Business and Media
This year being our 20th season, the Business and Media team has been working on curating a celebratory video entailing the history and the legacy of the team, as well as designing special 20th anniversary merchandise. Other projects include creating our annual Impact Award video, documentation of build season, and updating the public about our projects through newsletters and social media posts.

Outside of team meetings, Impact Award has begun the preliminary drafts of the essay, brainstorming possible themes of the presentation, and collaborating with Business & Media on creating the Impact Award video. On Friday, the team met up with Team 5985 Project Bucephalus on a call to receive feedback on the essay.
