What is girl powered?Girl Powered events are STEM events that aim to empower girls in grades 3-8. Each event is staffed by female 1678 volunteers that engage girls in fun, hands-on activities and inspire them to consider STEM as a career path.
Since December of 2018, we have held 21 Girl Powered events: five at the Mary L. Stephens Yolo County Library, ten online, and six in-person following COVID-19 guidelines. These events have reached over 350 attendees in total and we received amazing responses from parents and the community.
“I just wanted to let you know that (my daughter) has been having such a great time with these events - thank you so much for organizing them! In her words she said that she likes them because they combine two of her favorite things - crafting and science! And she also said that she really appreciated that your instructions were only guidelines and you encouraged creativity/flexibility/experimentation, which is just great.”
